Air Filtration and Purification
You deserve to breathe air that is pollutant and pathogen free. We might not be able to see the various bacteria, viruses, dust, pollen and mold in the air around us but it's there. When it comes to food and water, it’s becoming popular to go organic or fit your faucet with the latest filter, but what about the air we breathe? Breathe easier with an air filtration or purification system suited to your needs from Casteel.
Depending on your home, your system and ductwork, there can be a variety of combinations of air filtration systems that can accommodate your air quality needs. Air filtration systems actually trap even the smallest of pollutants and keep them from recirculating into your home. Air purification systems do just that and they also eliminate the pollutants before the air is sent back into your environment.
There are 3 types of systems that most homes can benefit from:
Standard 1# Air Filter-(GOOD) This is a disposable filter designed to trap particles, not eliminate them. The air pushes through the filter, which can be made of a number of different materials. These filters are rated with different Minimum Efficiency Rating Values (MERV). For optimal performance, it's best to choose filters with a MERV Rating between 8 and 13. The higher the overall rating, the better the filter's ability to block more and smaller types of contaminants. When you are part of Casteel’s Preventative Maintenance Program, your service technician will automatically change your filter as part of the inspection process. Depending on which 1” filter you choose, you may need to change these monthly to every 3 months. This type of filter tends to be less expensive and less effective at blocking all particles. By placing quality air filters within a home's ventilation system, you can block a number of irritating and harmful airborne particulates, including pollen, animal dander, mold spores, viruses and bacteria.
Media Air Filtration/Purification-(BETTER) A media filter is one that is pleated or layered in design that has nine times more surface area than a traditional flat air filter. At Casteel, we promote the use of Ultravation filters as they are air cleaners and designed to be the most efficient, effective, and easy to use filters available. Media filters are often 3” or more wide and easily capture 99% of particles 5 microns or larger, which are smaller than your average dust particle. There are several advantages to using these higher efficiency air filters. Not only will your heating and cooling equipment perform better, your operating costs may also be lower. The air you breathe will be cleaner thus reducing the risks associated with poor indoor air quality.
Electronic Filtration-(BEST) An electronic air cleaner is designed to remove airborne particles and contaminants 0.3 microns and larger that are passing through the duct system. At that size, allergens can get deep into your lungs because they aren’t filtered well by your nose and throat. Electronic air cleaners are a better quality of air cleaner, and these units help provide relief from allergies, asthma, and other respiratory illnesses. They mount directly to your furnace or air handle. As a reputable Trane dealer we believe that the Trane CleanEffects™ Air Cleaner uses revolutionary technology that supplies your home with a cleaner, healthier environment, allowing you to breathe easier. It catches particles as small as .1 micron, making it 8 times more effective than even the best HEPA room filters and up to 100 times more effective than a standard 1-inch filter. Trane CleanEffects™ has been performance-tested with the results verified by professors from the Harvard School of Public Health, so you know you are getting an air cleaner for your home like no other.
The American College of Allergists believes that 50% of all illnesses are either caused or aggravated by polluted indoor air. The first step in increasing your indoor air quality is to fit your home with a proper air filter. It might be overwhelming to try to determine which filter is the best for your home and particular needs. The NATE certified technicians at Casteel can help you make that decision.
